MENDIE TICKETS SELLING FAST

4th Annual Mendies Awards Celebration
7 p.m., Friday, March 9th
St. Joseph’s Hall on the campus of the Sisters of Charity off Hilltop Road.

Tickets for the 4th annual Mendies, set for Friday, March 9th, are selling swiftly and interested residents are encouraged to purchase their tickets before they run out.

"The last two years have been sell outs," commented Mendie committee member Evan "Buzzy" Thomas, "so we urge citizens to get theirs while they last."

Due to those sell outs at the Brookside Community Club, the venue for the Mendies has been changed this year to the larger St. Joseph's Hall at the Sisters of Christian Charity off Hilltop Road in Mendham.

Sponsored by Mendham TV, the Mendies are designed to recognize the best of the Mendhams and bring residents of Mendham Township and Mendham Borough together for a night of local celebration. Starting with the "Red Carpet" walk at 7 PM, the Mendies will also feature a community awards ceremony, a light buffet dinner, adult beverages, and dancing to the music of Rob Trout and the Flounders. The event will once again be covered by Mendham TV.

Advanced tickets are available for $30 from members of the Mendham TV Board or at participating sponsors, including Mendham Capital Management, Somerset Hills Bank, the Provident Bank and the Brookside Post Office. Prices will rise to $40 after March 1st or at the door.

One of the highlights of the Mendies is the induction of new members into the Mendham Hall of Fame. This year three well-known public officials and a long-time high school teacher will join the Hall.

Mike Ackerman, long-time town council member and Mayor in the Borough; Pat Maynard, former township commitee woman and member of the Port Authority board; Brian Phelan, long-time member of the Brookside Volunteer Fire Department and Township Committee; and Gary Quam, former teacher and veteran band director at Mendham-Chester High School comprise this year's class.

"This is another impressive class for the Mendham Hall of Fame," commented Ellen Sandman of the nominating committee. "It is amazing how the people of our communities give back. We have already received nominees for next year."

The class of 2012 will join previous recipients in the Hall.

The 2009 class included legendary high school basketball coach and Borough resident Fred Corona, long-time Borough resident farmer Fred Backer, the late
Ray Woodhull, a long-time volunteer fireman, and the late Ernie Maw, Mendham TV star and township historian. The class of 2010 featured Bob Gerber, who immigrated to the US from Swiss, built a successful business and is known locally as the "Christmas Tree light" guy; Bob Mulcahy, former Borough Mayor and Rutgers Athletic Director; Barbara Nutt, long-time Mendham High School teacher and resident of the Borough who advised the H.S. Service Club; the the late Rich Morales, Borough Police Officer and long-time D.A.R.E. leader.

And last year's class included Stu Pollock, a long-time resident of Brookside and retired New Jersey State Supreme Court judge; James J. Cillo, long-time Police Chief in Mendham Borough and one of the arresting officers in Mendham's Great Robbery of 1961; the Pitney family, which has lived in the Mendhams for 11 generations; and the Henry family, long-time local residents who raised seven children in the Township and helped start several youth sports programs.
