“Pain and Depression: Does Pain Get You Down?”

The Bernards Township Health Department will sponsor a program entitled “Pain and Depression: Does Pain Get You Down?” on Wednesday, September 6 at 7 p.m. at the Long Hill Township Library located at 917 Valley Road in Gillette, New Jersey. The program is free and open to all. Please post and distribute the attached flyer.

 

Dr. Harris Shaikh will discuss the impact of chronic pain on depression and techniques to improve management of pain and its concurrent depression. Dr. Shaikh is a pain management specialist with Nova Spine & Pain Centers.  He is triple board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology - Pain Medicine, American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), he specializes in the treatment of chronic pain, particularly the neck and low back.

 

Pain can make you depressed and depression can be painful. Chronic pain can add to feelings of isolation, loneliness, low self esteem and it can lead to stress and sleeplessness which will increase depression. It can also lead to problems with work, finances, and relationships. It can become a vicious cycle.
