MENDHAM BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION 

FIRE PREVENTION THROUGH PLANNING, EDUCATION & CODE ENFORCEMENT

The Bureau of Fire Prevention was established by the Mayor and Council on

November 4, 1974.

Mendham Bureau of Fire Prevention has the responsibility and authority to enter, investigate and perform routine fire inspections of all buildings, structures and properties in Mendham Borough with the exception of owner occupied 1 & 2 family dwellings.

Our primary responsibility is the enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Act and related Statutes through the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and other local fire safety regulations.  This includes the inspection of all Life Hazard Use properties, Non-Life Hazard Use businesses, offices and multi-family residences.

Additional duties of the Fire Prevention Bureau include: certification of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and portable fire extinguishers before the resale or reoccupancy of 1 and 2 family homes, complaint investigation, fire safety permit control, issuance of violation and penalty notices for failure to comply with the law, community fire protection planning, and public fire safety education.  The Bureau also assists the Mendham Borough Police Department and the Mendham Fire Department in Fire Investigations to determine origin and cause, and Fire Lane enforcement.
