Mendham Bureau of Fire Prevention has the responsibility and authority to enter, investigate and perform routine fire inspections of all buildings, structures and properties in Mendham Borough with the exception of owner occupied 1 & 2 family dwellings.
Our primary responsibility is the enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Act and related Statutes through the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and other local fire safety regulations. This includes the inspection of all Life Hazard Use properties, Non-Life Hazard Use businesses, offices and multi-family residences.
Additional duties of the Fire Prevention Bureau include: certification of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and portable fire extinguishers before the resale or reoccupancy of 1 and 2 family homes, complaint investigation, fire safety permit control, issuance of violation and penalty notices for failure to comply with the law, community fire protection planning, and public fire safety education. The Bureau also assists the Mendham Borough Police Department and the Mendham Fire Department in Fire Investigations to determine origin and cause, and Fire Lane enforcement.
Mendham Bureau of Fire Prevention Policy Pursuant to COVID-19 Containment & Suppression Measures:
As of Monday, April 6, 2020, the Mendham Borough Fire Prevention Bureau will be implementing the following emergency procedures in an effort to contain and suppress the spread of the COVID-19 Virus.
-The Fire Prevention Bureau Office will be closed commencing Monday, April 6, 2020 until further notice.
-All Commercial Fire Inspection and Re-inspection Operations will be suspended until further notice.
-All Fire Safety Event Permits and public fire prevention programs shall be cancelled until further notice.
-All in-person Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide, and Portable Fire Extinguisher Inspections will be cancelled until further notice. To apply for a certificate of compliance from the Fire Prevention Bureau, please fill out the “SMOKE DETECTOR, CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM, AND PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION AFFIDAVIT” found on the “forms center” page of the Mendham Borough Website. We will accept the application, application fee, and a signed Affidavit in lieu of the required in-person inspection. A certificate of compliance will be mailed as soon as the completed application and fee is received. Applications may be mailed to Mendham Fire Prevention, 6 W. Main Street Mendham, NJ 07945 or dropped off in the drive up “Tax & Sewer” Payment box at the same address.
The Fire Marshal shall be available at 973-543-7152 ext. * 12 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org during normal business hours for questions or concerns regarding matters pertaining to fire safety, prevention and inspections.
IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, DIAL 9-1-1 FOR ASSISTANCE.
The Fire Marshal shall remain on call to respond to and perform Origin and Cause Fire Investigations and any other functions deemed necessary in the interest of public safety.
