Disaster Recovery Center Opening Saturday in Parsippany

Release Date: September 12, 2011

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening a Disaster Recovery Center tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Parsippany Police Athletic League building at 33 Baldwin Road in Parsippany-Troy Hills to provide face-to-face assistance to those who suffered damage and losses from Hurricane Irene.

Federal disaster assistance is now available in Morris and New Jersey's 20 other counties that suffered damages during Irene.

The Parsippany center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, until further notice.

FEMA urges residents to register before visiting the DRC. Individuals may register online at or they may call FEMA's toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Those with access or functional needs and who use a TTY may call 800-462-7585, or they may use 711 or Video Relay Service to call 800-621-3362. Both numbers are available from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

At the Parsippany DRC, residents will be able to receive information from FEMA specialists about different types of state and federal disaster assistance; get help completing applications for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations; inquire about the status of applications for federal assistance; receive referrals to voluntary organizations to help with immediate unmet needs; and learn about cost-effective measures to reduce the impact of future disaster losses.

The Morris County Office of Temporary Assistance will also have staff on hand at the Parsippany center to assist county residents with their needs, including processing applications for one-time food assistance through the disaster-related Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program.
