WORK COMPLETED WITHOUT A PERMIT - RETROSPECT PERMIT APPLICATION GUIDELINES

 

Work that requires a permit that is done without a permit is illegal and can pose serious complications for you when you sell your house. 

To apply for a retorspect permit :

REQUIREMENTS FOR FILING FOR A RETROSPECT PERMIT APPLICATION-

COMPLETED PERMIT APPLICATION TO INCLUDE:

  • CONSTRUCTION PERMIT APPLICATION FOLDER - ucc F100 form 
  • TECHNICAL SECTIONS AS APPLICABLE
    • BUILDING TECHNICAL SECTION - ucc F110 form
    • ELECTRICAL TECHNICAL SECTION - F120 form
    • FIRE PROTECTION TECHNICAL SECTION - ucc F140 form
    • PLUMBING TECHNICAL SECTION - ucc F130 form
    • MECHANICAL TECHNICAL SECTION - F145 Form
  • 3 SETS OF PLANS AND/OR MANUFACTURER SPECS. - Plans can be prepared by a homeowner of a Single-Family Dwelling and must be in sufficient clarity to assure compliance. The Homeowner must sign the plans they prepare as well as the Certification in Lieu of Oath in the Construction Permit Application Folder
  • 3 COPIES OF PROPERTY SURVEY IF APPLICABLE AND INCLUDE ZONING APPLICATION AND PAYMENT FOR ZONING PERMIT FEES PAYABLE TO “MENDHAM BOROUGH”

IF YOUR PROPERTY IS SUBJECT TO REVIEW/APPROVAL FROM A HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION (HOA) FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK; YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THE HOA APPROVAL WITH YOUR CONSTRUCTION PERMIT APPLICATION.

 IF YOUR PROPERTY IS SUBJECT TO REVIEW/APPROVAL FROM THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION (HPC) FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK, YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THE HPC APPROVAL WITH YOUR CONSTRUCTION PERMIT APPLICATION.

 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS MUST BE CERTIFIED BY A NJ LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR OR EXPOSED FOR ROUGH WIRNG INSPECTION. (THE CERTIFICATION MUST BE SIGNED AND SEALED AND ON THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS OFFICIAL LETTER HEAD.)

 PLUMBING INSTALLATIONS MUST BE CERTIFIED BY A NJ LICENSED PLUMBING CONTRACTOR OR EXPOSED FOR ROUGH INSPECTION. A SMOKE TEST SHALL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO FINAL APPROVAL. (THE CERTIFICATION MUST BE SIGNED AND SEALED AND ON THE PLUMBING CONTRACTORS OFFICIAL LETTER HEAD.)

 MECHANICAL INSTALLATIONS SUCH AS FURNACES, BOILERS, AND WATER HEATERS ETC. MUST HAVE A CHIMNEY VERIFICATION FORM ucc F370 form SIGNED BY A LICENSED MASTER PLUMBER OR HVACR CONTRACTOR.

 A PENALTY OF UP TO $2000.00 MAY BE ASSESED AND ADDED TO THE PERMIT FEE AFTER REVIEW.
