It is the mission of the Mendham Bureau of Fire Prevention to minimize the number of fires within Mendham Borough and reduce the severity of fires when they occur. This mission shall be accomplished through routine and cyclical inspections of all properties and business as required by the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and applicable Borough Ordinances.

Additional duties of the Fire Prevention Bureau include: certification of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and portable fire extinguishers before the resale or reoccupancy of 1 and 2 family homes, complaint investigation, fire safety permit control, issuance of violation and penalty notices for failure to comply with the law, community fire protection planning, and public fire safety education.  The Bureau also conducts investigations to determine origin & cause of fires.

The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code 5:70-2.3(a) states: “Before any one or two family structure is sold, leased or otherwise made subject to a change of occupancy for residential purposes, the owner shall obtain a Certificate of Smoke Alarm,  Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC), evidencing compliance with N.J.A.C 5:70-4.19.

-The application may also be dropped off at the Bower’s Building drive through during regular business hours or dropped off the in SEWER & TAX PAYMENT BOX after hours.

Inspections are conducted Monday - Friday between 10:00am-12:00pm.
