Message from the Mayor-Power Outages

Release Date: December 10, 2024

Dear Mendham Residents,

Last week we had an electrical outage that impacted 73 homes. We had high winds that day and JCP&L told me they suspected a downed tree on the wires. The cause for the outage turned out to be a blown fuse. JCP&L workers discovered that a bouquet of mylar balloons had broken free from a home and made contact with the wires. Because these types of balloons are made of metal, when they make contact with the wires they usually cause a short. I, for one, had no idea this could happen. This is a lesson for us all that when we tie balloons up outside we should make sure they are very secure.

Have a terrific day.

Christine Serrano Glassner
