Message from the Mayor – Storm Recovery Update

Our emergency responders, Department of Public Works, utility crews, and tree contractors continue working throughout Mendham Borough to address the significant storm damage. We appreciate everyone’s patience as recovery efforts continue.

Things are being addressed and moved forward as quickly as possible. The power company has confirmed that the downed lines are not energized, which is helping crews work safely, but the enormity of the damage is adding to the delays. Tree crews are in town actively working.

The following roads remain closed and impassable:

  • Hilltop Road between Cherry Lane and Cromwell Road – utility pole and wires across the roadway.
  • Ironia Road between West Main Street and the Roxiticus Extension – trees and primary power lines down in the roadway.
  • Ironia Road at Backer Farm – primary power line down across the roadway.
  • Bernardsville Road at approximately 435 Bernardsville Road – tree and wires across the roadway.
  • Thomas Rd. - Downed wires.

Please treat all downed wires as if they are energized and stay well away from them. Report power outages directly to JCP&L.

As crews work to clear roads, every downed power line must first be inspected and confirmed by the power company to be de-energized before tree crews and public works personnel can safely remove debris. This safety requirement, combined with the widespread damage across our area, is contributing to delays in reopening roadways.

Tree crews are actively working throughout the Borough, and progress is being made as quickly and safely as possible. If you encounter a roadway obstruction or closure that is not listed above, please contact the Mendham Borough Police Department non-emergency line at (973) 543-2527 so it can be reported and addressed.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we continue working to restore normal conditions throughout our community.

Mayor Jim Kelly
