It was also recognized as a high-performing hospital in four specialties: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Pulmonology & Lung Surgery and Urology.

“This most prestigious national recognition is a testament to the extraordinary dedication and commitment to excellence from our medical, clinical and support teams to consistently provide exceptional care to bring about the best-possible patient outcomes,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, President, Morristown Medical Center. “To be number one in the state once again validates our advancements in clinical innovation coupled with our strong collaboration among the teams resulting in high-quality care for our patients. No matter what comes our way, our communities know that they can count on us to provide the best possible care and exceptional resources to keep them healthy. We are ecstatic to be recognized for our steadfast efforts to earn this distinction.”

Additionally, U.S. News & World Report this year recognized Overlook as high-performing in a total of eight common adult procedures and conditions: COPD, Colon Cancer Surgery, Diabetes, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, Knee Replacement and Stroke. Overlook is also high-performing in three specialties: Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology.

“To receive these accolades after a year unlike any other shows the incredible talent and resilience of our nurses, doctors and caregivers,” said Brian Gragnolati, President and CEO, Atlantic Health System. “Congratulations and thank you to every member of our amazing team.  Your tireless commitment to our patients and communities is the driving force behind the extraordinary care provided by Atlantic Health System.”

The annual Best Hospitals ranking and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures. The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

For the 2021-2022 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions. In the 15 specialty areas, 175 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high-performing across multiple areas of care.

“For over 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to healthcare consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “By providing the most comprehensive data available on nearly every hospital across the United States, we give patients, families and physicians information to support their search for the best care across a range of procedures, conditions and specialties.”
