ABOUT THE FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU
 
The Bureau's goal is to minimize the number of fires within Mendham Borough and reduce the severity of fires.  It is responsible for thorough routine and annual inspections of all properties and business as required by the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and applicable Borough Ordinances.
  • Certification of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and portable fire extinguishers before the resale or re-occupancy of 1 and 2 family homes.
  • Complaint investigation
  • Fire safety permit control
  • Issuance of violation and penalty notices for failure to comply with the law
  • Community fire protection planning
  • Public fire safety education  
  • Conduct investigations to determine origin & cause of fires. 
 
SELLING OR LEASING YOUR HOME GUIDELINES
    • The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code 5:70-2.3(a) states: “Before any one or two family structure is sold, leased or otherwise made subject to a change of occupancy for residential purposes, the owner shall obtain a Certificate of Smoke Alarm,  Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC), evidencing compliance with N.J.A.C 5:70-4.19.
    • Completed application must be submitted with fee
