Disaster Recovery Center in Morris Closes

Release Date: December 10, 2012

The Disaster Recovery Center at the Morris Plains Community Center has closed.

The Center, operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, had been open since Nov. 9.

Morris County residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy can continue to visit the other DRC’s serving individuals in New Jersey. Anyone can visit any DRC in any county or even another state, according to FEMA.  A list of centers may be found at www.fema.gov.

Those affected by Sandy are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a DRC.  Individuals can register for assistance and can also follow up on previous applications by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or by web-enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov.

Registering by telephone or 711/VRS can be accomplished by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585.  Only applying directly with FEMA will establish registration for disaster assistance.

Officials remind anyone registering with FEMA that after they do so, there is a need to complete a Small Business Administration loan application, which may be found on the SBA website, www.sba.gov.

Officials said accepting an SBA loan is not required, but completing an SBA loan application is part of the process.  Once that is done, the applicant may get a loan for assistance or if qualified, the applicant may be eligible for additional assistance.
